Job Description:

I. POSITION PURPOSE:
The incumbent in this position will have direct responsibility to lead strategic continuous improvement programs across multiple business units. This position provides leadership, guidance & mentoring to the team’s junior continuous improvement engineers.

II. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITY:
• Maintain prospective Kaizen projects – determining organizational impact & criticality
• 50% of role will be strategic in focus: planning, leading, & organizing the efforts of the CI Engineers assigned to individual Business Units. Evaluating Kaizen events effectiveness to determine follow on activities for CI Engineers & teams. Analyzing the metric data to infer financial & efficiency impact of events
• Provide direction to the Continuous Improvement Engineers
• Develop training deliverables and provide initial training to CI Engineers & Trainers
• Lead multiple concurrent projects across a variety of product lines and/or plants
• Provide strategic input based on statistical analysis of event life cycle activities

III. FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
This position requires knowledge gained from leading numerous events at the floor level. The Continuous Improvement Engineer will possess extreme proficiency with the Lean tools to include: VSM, SMED, 5S+1, TPM, KAIZEN, DMAIC, 6-Sigma, etc. .


IV. BUSINESS EXPERTISE:
This position will have developed a strong understanding of the manufacturing business through previous experience gained as a “working CI Engineer”. The ability to organize prospective Kaizen events into a fluid schedule which captures trends in the business will be a significant impact of this role.

V. LEADERSHIP/PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
The Continuous Improvement Engineer will provide indirect leadership to the CI teams, Business Unit Managers as well as other plant management staff. During the course of leading specific projects, the Continuous Improvement Engineer will have provided direct leadership to the members of the team assembled.

VI. PROBLEM SOLVING:
The Continuous Improvement Engineer will utilize the experience gained from leading multiple projects as a Continuous Improvement Engineer or like role. The ability to react in a strategic manner and recognize the long view of a problem or challenge will be a critical tool for the Continuous Improvement Engineer.

VII. NATURE OF IMPACT
This position will provide a direct impact to the efficiency of the Jackson facility.

VIII. AREA OF IMPACT:
This position will interact with multiple business units, providing leadership & direction for the development, implementation and validation of Kaizen events.

IX. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
This role requires a diverse set of interpersonal skills. Communication audiences will vary from executive leadership at the plant & corporate level as well as direct interaction with vendors, programmers and end users.

X. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
This position requires the experience gained from 3+ years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineering setting with at least 2 years of direct Continuous Improvement Engineer experience. Additionally a 4 year degree in Manufacturing Engineering or like degree is required. This position will lead without direct authority, provide primarily strategic focus to the Continuous Improvement team members, will have demonstrated experience in the validation of Kaizen events. Individuals selected for the Continuous Improvement Engineer role will possess an extremely high energy level, will be proficient in driving rapid improvement deployments, and will have leadership experience during a LEAN implementation.
